Original Items: One-of-a-kind set. Cloisonne is decorative work in which enamel, glass, or gemstones are separated by strips of flattened wire placed edgeways on a metal backing. It is a traditional Chinese craft art.
Doing from the 1920s or 1930s this is an incredible vintage enamel cloisonne smoking set that consists of a matchbox safe or cover, cigarette case, and ashtray. Each piece is expertly crafted and features the United Stares Marine Corps Eagle Globe Anchor (EGA) insignia. The ashtray and cigarette Case also read SEMPER FIDELIS U.S. MARINE CORPS. The set features vibrant colors and top craftsmanship and is offered in excellent condition.
Overall a really nice collection of China Marine souvenirs from before World War Two.
The term China Marines, originally referred to the United States Marines, of the 4th Marine Regiment, who were stationed in Shanghai, China from 1927 to 1941 to protect American citizens and property in the Shanghai International Settlement, during the Chinese Revolution and the Second Sino-Japanese War. Those Marines stationed at the embassy in Peking and the consulate in Tientsin referred to themselves as North China Marines.
